On The Trail O' Jacobites 45' (830 Miles)

 Jacobites

The name Jacobite is derived from James Francis Edward Stuart (the Latin for James being Jacobus), the Old Pretender to the Scottish throne and is the name given to his and his grandson, Charles Edward Stuart, the Young Pretender’s followers.  The Jacobite risings took place from 1688 to 1746 when attempts were made to return a Stuart monarch to the Scottish throne.  These uprisings culminated in the Jacobites’ devastating defeat at Culloden in 1746 and the Young Pretender, like his grandfather before him, spent the rest of his life in exile.

On The Trail O' Jacobites 45' (978 miles,approx)

In 1745 the Young Pretender set sail from Loire in France landing on the outer Hebriden island of Eriskay.

This is a five day tour telling the real story of Charles Edward Louis John Philip Casimir Sylvester Maria Stuart, Charlie to his friends, alias Betty Burke, taking in some of the Scotland's most popular scenic glens, lochs, and Islands.

General Information

The tour starts at our head office in Melrose, heads north taking in Jacobite points of intrest from Lauder to Culloden moor, the islands of Skye, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist, and Eriskay, Charlie's first point of landing. Our journey south takes us to places such as Mallaig, Glenfinnan, and Traquair House.

The theme of all our tours on Scotland's country roads is for a relaxed and unhurried trip, taking in local scenery and points of interest.  The nature of the roads on many of our chosen trips does not encourage "speeding bullets" so we're promoting a sedate, leisurely introduction to Scotland.

On The Trail O' Jacobites 45' can be incorporated into many of our Highland routes.

Prices for individual or joint tours are available on enquiry; accommodation options and costs can also be made available on request, if required.
