Five Glens to Coe (200 miles, approx)

This is a full day tour taking in some of the Scotland's most popular scenic glens and lochs, with an opportunity to see the hidden Glen Quaich, weather and road conditions allowing!

We start our day in the south east of Scotland, the Scottish Borders, "Sir Walter Scott Country".

Our normal gathering point is our head office, The Chain Bridge Farm, in Melrose.  We travel north via the Gala Water road, great to get you into the swing of things, and on up to Edinburgh, over the Forth Road Bridge, following the motorway before turning off, heading for our first glen, "Glen Devon".

Crossing the bridge can be a very windy experience, if the winds are too strong we will divert to Kincardine.

After a refreshment stop, we follow Glen Devon, then onto our second glen, "Gleneagles" famous for its hotel and golfer's paradise. From here we head on to Crieff taking a break at the Famous Grouse Distillery, remember we are driving!

The next part of our trip takes us over the summits around our third glen,  "Glen Almond" and if all is well up the hidden glen of "Glen Quaich". When the weather is good, we will see breath taking scenery, possibly deer and eagles, good for photo stops! The Quaich road is not for the faint hearted, with short, tight, steep, narrow hairpin bends. This road requires your attention! There is an alternative route if conditions and abilities are not adequate.

After Glen Quaich we take a well earned rest at Kenmore before starting our journey west along Loch Tay, source of the River Tay. After stunning views (weather permitting) we descend to Killin, with more photo opportunities at the Falls of Dochart. This leads us into our last Glen before we reach Glen Coe, Glen Dochart is well known by bikers and a familiar fuel stop is Lix Toll.

Glen Dochart is a wide open glen with an easy ride road all the way to Tyndrum, another famous Scottish bikers fuel stop.

We've now reached the final part of the journey. We head for Glen Coe passing Bridge of Orchy on our way up on to the Black Mount Plateau, past Glen Etive, a glen well worth taking the time to visit if staying in this area. We then drive down into the Pass of Glen Coe. This is an awe inspiring and stunning glen, but we advise extreme caution on running the pass, as it is a major tourist attraction, with many accidents caused by drivers and pedestrians not watching out for other road users.    We have carefully chosen photo stops and may take you off the main road onto the back road to Glencoe Village.

Depending on available time, there may be an opportunity to visit the Glen Coe visitor centre or we may go to our selected accommodation. This depends greatly on the overall trip, time of year and availability, it may be in Glen Coe village, Ballachulish, Fort William or Oban.

Accommodation prices vary dramatically so we will give you a cost closer to the time of booking.

As a rough guide, B&B will cost around £40 - £60 per head.

The next days' trips depend on your itinerary, but from here we have endless options.

General Information: The theme of all our tours is for a relaxed and unhurried trip, taking in local scenery and points of interest.  We try to run at a pace to suit all within the group but appreciate that some may wish to go faster than others and will endeavour to accommodate such riders on appropriate sections of the tour.  Please note that from the Borders this tour only takes one day to complete, finishing around the Glen Coe / Oban area, but as you may not require our guide the following day, the Guide will return back to the Borders.

Five Glens to Coe can be incorporated into many of our Highland routes.

Dining out: We are always happy to advise on where to dine and when at all possible we like to dine with the whole group.

Prices for individual or joint tours are available on enquiry; accommodation options and costs can also be made available on request, if required.

For information on bike/equipment hire and other conditions of the tours, please refer to our Motor Cycle Tours home page.
